| This pioneering program is made up of two equally significant processes. In the first phase the program recruits youth who have had experience of the social service sector. They then attend a training program that helps them develop the skills needed to create and participate in adult training workshops. Workshops include scenarios that reflect their experiences as marginalized youth who have had to navigate ‘the system’.
In the second phase of this project, the Connect to Youth Trainers, working closely with program leaders, offer facilitated interactive scenario-based workshops to a variety of clients: front line youth workers, parents, supervisors and management, counsellors, etc. This authentic learning experience can be used to:
* Allow staff to receive feedback on techniques and processes. * Explore innovate/new ideas on working with system-experienced youth. * Examine methodology of new and existing staff. * Assess existing abilities of staff and strengths in your team. * Determine where client-services can be improved. * Receive supportive and honest feedback on service ideas from youth with first hand social service experience. * Conduct interviews and assessments. * Help staff to develop new tools.
